Workshop (part 10 description (6:00-7:30p.m.)
This workshop will provide an overview on advancing racial equity, inclusion, & social justice in early childhood (EC). There are persistent race-based disparities in risks, access, positive experiences, & outcomes. This workshop will outline the problem & unique context, as well as share a framework for racial equity that highlights ways to increase awareness, analysis, action & accountability, both individually as EC professionals & collectively as an EC community. The aim to is encourage critical reflection, dialogue, & planning for racial equity & justice.
Speaker: Amittia Parker,
PhDc, LMSW, MAP, has worked for over a decade as a mental health consultant across a variety of settings in Kansas City, KS, including home-based services, child care centers, school-based services and health clinics. She is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Kansas, School of Social Work. Her current research projects focus on mental health among Black mothers and social work students, natural helping spaces, and behavioral health service availability & delivery. Amittia's provides trainings & consultation services focused on racial equity & mental health. She also serves on leadership roles in local, state, & national venues focused on infant & early childhood, the African American community, and Black social workers.

We will hold a round-table type discussion focused on Oregon’s EC community specifically. There will be time to ask questions, share your thoughts, and more.
